How to choose a good job

Sophie Paine

You want to get a salary ... but which job should you choose? Here are a few things to consider:

Skills What are you good at? Which school subjects are you best at? What after school activities have you done that add to your skills?

Experience Have you ever done small jobs, even if you were not paid? Organised an event? Made a speech? What did this experience teach you?

Interest What do you like doing? Write a list and compare it to your skills and experiences. Do they match?

Enquire Write a list of jobs, as long as possible, by asking adults around you. Then enquire on the skills, education and experience needed to do these jobs. Compare the job list to you personal list: which jobs could fit you?

Job market Try to find out the demand and supply for your short list of jobs, and the salaries.

Choose the right studies Once you have found out the job which fits you and have demand, enquire on the education required: Which university? Where? How much does it cost?

Plan B Even if you are super motivated by a job and an education, have another possibility at hand in case you don't manage to get your first choice.
