Yan can whip up something for Sichuan quake victims
If Yan can help, so can you. TV chef Martin Yan happens to be in town at the moment and, in light of the recent mainland tragedy, has decided to do something to raise money for the Sichuan earthquake victims, too. Joining forces with the staff at the InterContinental Grand Stanford Hotel, the celebrity cook has hastily planned a benefit dinner called Cooking for Life, Cooking for Sichuan, to be held on Saturday at the Tsim Sha Tsui East hotel's Academy Ballroom, starting at 7pm.
Yan will be assisted by the Chinese head chef, Leung Fai-hung, at the hotel's award-winning Hoi King Heen restaurant for this evening of sommelier wines, entertainment and what is described as a 'one-of-a-kind cooking show'. It seems Yan will make one of his special dishes in front of diners, which will then be served as part of the menu.
The cost to attend is HK$25,000 for a table of 10. An auction of prized items is also planned. All proceeds will go to Sichuan relief efforts through Yan's Hong Kong charity organisation, Cooking for Life.
