Carnival-type gala aims to keep roof over HK Dog Rescue

Amid all the fund-raising campaigns to help Sichuan , there's another worthy benefit that deserves your attention. Sally Andersen (pictured) and the folks at Hong Kong Dog Rescue have been hard at work planning a big gala tonight at Times Square's Wasabisabi.

The group's Brazilian carnival ball will feature lots of entertainment including scantily dressed samba dancers, a capoeira group, a salsa band, a DJ and Brazilian drummers, not to mention plenty of drinks and munchies.

Ultimately, all this effort is to keep the rescue group going, as it might lose the Pok Fu Lam kennels shortly.

'We urgently need to get some money, otherwise we're going to be homeless,' a Hong Kong Dog Rescue spokeswoman pleaded. 'Next year they're trying to build another Bel-Air-style property out there, so we may need to find another kennel. Every year we shelter 2,000 to 3,000 dogs.'

In short, the group needs to raise about HK$1 million every year to take care of all the homeless animals.

Hosting the evening is Bloomberg anchor Bernard Lo, and the grand door prize is a round-trip business-class flight for two to Bali. The entrance fee is HK$700. Contact [email protected] or call 9448 1128.
