Dave Ho Man-fung doesn't always see eye-to-eye with his professors at the Polytechnic University.

He is a second-year student of a part-time Bachelor of Arts in Fashion and Textiles, with Specialism in Intimate Apparel programme, at the university.

Mr Ho explained that a gap existed in the research data presented at school and what he actually applied at work, and this sometimes caused problems. 'Being a technically strong designer, I am aware of some of the latest trends in the industry,' he said.

'I sometimes feel sceptical about the findings from some academically inclined studies.

'Theories taught at school are for the ideal situation,' he said. 'But it might be another matter when it comes to the application at the workshop. Sometimes I get into arguments with the professors over this.'

Differences apart, Mr Ho said the course enabled him to improve his technical abilities and 'upgrade' himself. 'Although I've been working as a bra designer, it is vital to keep myself abreast of the latest technological developments in the industry outside of work. This course has a strong emphasis on production and it is a good learning environment for me,' he added.
