Shanxi will speed up coal production to meet the greater demand following the Sichuan earthquake and ahead of an expected surge in consumption this summer.
China News Service quoted an official from the Shanxi Coal Industry Bureau as saying the province would give quake-affected areas and coal-fired power plants delivery priority.
A week ago, coal supplies in Hebei , Anhui , Hunan and Hainan had fallen below the critical seven-day threshold, and some power plants even had less than three days, the report said.
