Sick-pay disputes revealed

The number of cases of non-payment or underpayment of sickness allowance handled by the Labour Department in 2005, 2006 and last year was 70, 84 and 67 respectively. Secretary for Labour and Welfare Matthew Cheung Kin-chung said about 70 per cent of the cases were settled after conciliation.

Reversing car hits passers-by

Four people were injured when a motorist accidentally reversed while starting his car in Sheung Wan. Another pedestrian injured his leg running away. The driver passed a breathalyser test.
