Three steps to success

TNT Distinguished Sales Award winner Edmond Hui Ka-kit has three golden rules for success - enthusiasm, courage and rapport. The account manager in business development and operational functions said an excellent salesperson was enthusiastic and had a positive mindset.

'Enthusiasm is contagious and can help you through difficult times. We should always focus on the positive elements in life,' he said, adding that courage was also an important quality. 'We need to be courageous and to face our own fear. In times of difficulties, we need to act fast and move forward. Building rapport is the single most powerful of all selling skills. If you establish a rapport with someone, you have created unlimited opportunities to make sales in the future.'

He said dedication to excellent service enabled him to excel under pressure. He sees selling as a vital skill that can be applied to all aspects of life. 'If you want to be successful in life, business or relationships, you must learn to sell yourself. Everything counts - appearance, communication and personal skills.'
