The manager at Sentosa's HK$34b project will have to build a team of up to 500 employees

Are you ready to provide efficient service standards on behalf of a mega-attraction? A manager, attractions operations, is sought to join a Singapore-based resort that should welcome 15 million visitors when it opens in 2010.

Resorts World at Sentosa is a collection of resorts and attractions with many fun-filled offerings for the entire family.

'This S$6 billion [HK$34.38 billion] mega-resort will be home to Southeast Asia's first Universal Studios theme park, the world's largest oceanarium and the region's first integrated destination spa,' said Seah-Khoo Ee Boon, senior vice-president of human resources and training at Resorts World at Sentosa. 'The duties of the manager of attractions operations at Universal Studios Singapore include participation in the pre-construction design, and [the provision] of operational input to attractions project teams.' In addition to developing and implementing attraction operating procedures and training programmes, the recruit will build a 400- to 500-strong team. Other responsibilities include the development and overseeing of operational and safety compliance.

The development and management of operational, manpower and special event budgets, and the recommendation of improvements to the overall efficiency of the unit is also par for the course. 'Of course, they will also manage the daily function of attractions operations and serve as duty manager,' Ms Ee Boon said.

This is far from a desk job. 'The employee will be spending some 60 to 70 per cent of their time in the park,' she said. 'They will lead the operations team, ensuring the smooth running of the operations, and [carrying out] immediate problem solving - making this an extremely exciting challenge.'

This role is of particular importance to Universal Studios as the smooth delivery of its guest experience is one of the key reasons it has won worldwide renown. The incumbent should therefore provide the highest level of guest service in delivering the best guest experience possible.

'Our ideal candidate is someone who is a strong leader of people, boasting good hospitality management skills and attractions experience,' Ms Ee Boon said.

'We hope to find someone who is outgoing, with a penchant for working with people and who is a good leader.'

The candidate must also relish the outdoors and enjoy working in a highly dynamic and exciting theme park atmosphere. 'This includes the smell of popcorn, the laughter of children and the screams of thrill-seekers,' she said.

The successful candidate will be stationed at Universal Studios Singapore when it opens in early 2010 so minimal travel is required. Training and development opportunities are broad, and include mentorship and park lead training programmes in development with Universal parks in the United States.
