Giving my dreams wings

I would like to be an air hostess or actress. I love travelling and acting. However, I know that I am not beautiful enough to be a TV star. Therefore, I choose being an air hostess as my dream career.

I have travelled 16 times since I was three. Every time I board the plane, I feel excited. Whenever I see the kind and helpful air hostesses, I am very happy.

I remember a pretty air hostess who gave me two bars of chocolate and a cup of ice cream when I was eight. I will never forget her warm smile.

My second dream career is acting. Although being a TV or movie star is quite difficult for a common girl like me, I still hope that I can do it.

Spreading hate through technology

Cyber bullying is something which has only come about through advanced technology like the internet and mobile phones.

Nowadays many students have mobile phones and they use them to send nasty messages about other students to multiple recipients.

This is very hard for victims and can cause real damage. It could mean they drop out of school, or worse. Some victims might choose to fight back and a vicious cycle of hatred begins.

Schools should take responsibility, in part, for the propagation of such behaviour.

Firstly they should be aware of this issue and educate the students about its consequences.

Secondly they can ban mobile phones from schools to prevent students from taking embarrassing videos or photos in the first place.

Of course parents also have to take responsibility. They should teach their children to be loving and respectful. They should also monitor their children's use of technology.

But students also have a responsibility to protect themselves. They should keep their personal information safe from others.

Furthermore, if they discover offensive material online, they should contact the site operator and demand it be removed.

Cyber bullying is becoming increasingly serious, but if we all do the best we can to stop it, the internet and mobile phones will not be used to make people's lives miserable.

Just be yourself and enjoy life

All of us, at one time or another, have wanted change so that we can fit into a different social circle

Maybe we change the way we dress to become one of the popular kids. We may want to change the way we talk to seem cooler. We dream that someday we will be the most popular boy or girl in school.

But is all this fame worth changing who you are? If you make the changes just to be popular, you are no longer yourself. You will be wearing a mask. It is sad and pathetic that you need to live your life this way.

Life is so short we need to enjoy what we have and not waste time trying to be what we're not. You'll not be happy after all and you'll lose your true friends. You might end up hanging out with the cool guys but you have nothing in common with them.

Time to tackle solid waste

Hong Kong's solid waste problem becomes more serious each year.

According to recent research, 600 million tonnes of solid waste is generated in Hong Kong every year. I wonder why people waste so much when there are people who are starving in poor countries.

At the same time, Hong Kong's three landfills are soon going to be full. Some people suggest the government just creates more landfills, but we need to make fundamental changes to reduce waste.

According to a survey conducted by my school's Environmental Protection Club, most students have no sense of environmental protection. They are constantly wasting food and paper. I really wish they would learn to recycle and to value what they have. Many people are not as lucky as we are.

We need to make sure we use up paper on both sides, and that we put our waste into recycling receptacles.

At home we should ask our parents only to cook the food we are going to eat, and encourage them to reuse things if they can.

Copying others stifles creativity

I am writing in response to the article 'Housewife held for sale of fake torches', which appeared in the South China Morning Post on May 4, 2008.

I think the woman is very selfish, because the original designer put a lot of effort into the torch. This woman wanted to profit from someone else's hard work. If we all copied everything from someone else, we would never make anything new.

I think we should respect other people's designs and not copy them.

Happy memories

Sitting the final examinations signifies the end of the school year. After this my class will be divided as students will take different subjects.

I'm sorry to leave my 3D class, but I did enjoy the time I had there. I have many happy memories, such as the singing contest, the Christmas celebration and the school outings.

But most of all I'll miss seeing my friends. It has been an honour to study with them and I believe our friendship will last forever.
