Mother of six sues husband over land
A mother of six is taking her husband to court over ownership of nine plots of land in Yuen Long that he allegedly promised her when he left for Britain 29 years ago.
Tang Oi-hei filed a High Court writ on Monday suing Cheung Hong-nin, alias Cheung Hon-nin.
She is seeking a legal declaration recognising her 50 per cent rights and interests to the plots.
The writ says Mr Cheung had refused to confirm her ownership rights, despite a letter her lawyers sent to him last month.
It says Ms Tang and Mr Cheung married in 1959, and he left her and their six children in 1979 to 'search for fortune' in Britain.
Mr Cheung allegedly promised to give Ms Tang 50 per cent of three properties if she took care of the children, particularly their second-eldest son, who suffered serious mental health problems.
It is also alleged that Mr Cheung asked Ms Tang to contribute to the household expenses, and manage the three properties and any other land he might acquire in the future.
According to the writ, Mr Cheung then left Hong Kong and became a cook in Britain.
The writ says Ms Tang took good care of the family and managed the properties, including six more Mr Cheung bought.
She had made them profitable by leasing them and growing fruit on the land, it says.
