Focus on US higher education
A UNITED States University Fair will be held on Sunday in a hotel as part of an Asian road show.
Officials of 30 universities and colleges will be present to answer questions concerning admission requirements, academic programmes, application procedures, costs and financial aids.
The fair, organised twice a year since 1982, aims to provide an opportunity for university officials to meet directly with interested students so as to enhance communication and understanding.
Students interested in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are welcomed. Most of the officials represent their respective universities' undergraduate programmes, but they can also provide information on postgraduate studies.
Information sessions on higher education will also be given at the fair, which aims to help students pick the right university.
Apart from students, parents and school officials are also welcomed to attend.
The US has been one of the countries favoured by Asian students, which accounts for 58.6 per cent of the total foreign student population.
Business administration is the most popular for Hong Kong students in the US. Engineering, computer science and basic sciences are also attracting a considerable number of young people.
Recently, more and more students are showing increasing interest in the creative arts such as television, radio, film, graphic design, music, art journalism and public relations.
The participating universities at fair are Ashland University; Calvin College; Chaminade University of Honolulu; De Paul University; Drake University; Drury College; Emporia State University; Fairfield University; Florida Institute of Technology; GeorgiaInstitute of Technology; Graceland College, Lynn University; Mills College; University of Mississippi; Monterey Peninsula College; University of New Haven; University of the Pacific; Philadelphia College or Textiles; Point Park College, University of Portland; St. Andrews College; College of Saint Catherine; Saint Mary's College of California; Saint Mary's College of Minnesota; Seattle University; Sonoma State University; Texas Christian University; University of Toledo; Weber State University; and Widener University.
The road show also covers Bangkok, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Jakarta, Surabaya, Manila, Taipei, Seoul, Osaka and Tokyo.
The fair will be held from 2 pm to 5 pm at the ballroom of the Island Shangri-La Hotel, Pacific Place, Admiralty. Admission is free.
