If you would like to become part of a dynamic company which is challenging the displays market by offering breakthrough products for mobile devices, read on.

A newly established company is on the hunt for a product development director for its Hong Kong office. Liquavista was founded in 2006 to develop products using its patented HEOS display technology, based on a decade of work done inside Philips Research Labs.

'This is a newly created position,' said C. Y. Ho, the director of operations for Liquavista (HK), which opened here in 2007.

'As we are expanding our product development team, we are looking for experienced people to help us to grow the organisation in the product development area,' Mr Ho said.

The successful candidates will form a key part of the local management team and will be required to establish and manage all product development activities and processes to meet cost, time, quality and customer satisfaction, he said.

Although the new recruit will lead a team of four people, this could grow by another three or four in the long term.

'We are looking for people with 10 years of experience in the product development field,' Mr Ho said. A knowledge of display technology is preferred, but not essential.

Applicants should also have a bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline, such as electronics. It is important to have a level of competence in people and project management to succeed in this role. Candidates should be creative and pragmatic innovators who directly complement the company's expertise.

'Excellent communication skills, as well as an ability to develop and manage relations at all levels, are a must,' Mr Ho said. 'Applicants should be able to carry out high-level planning, as well as resolve low-level problems.

'They should also be able to bridge between multiple disciplines, such as electronics, mechanics, optics and manufacturing, and facilitate cross-functional co-operation.'

Candidates who are team workers with experience in cross-cultural working environments, have a willingness to be hands-on and are flexible in a dynamic environment are more likely to be successful. They should be able to consistently deliver and meet commitments.

Travel forms roughly 30 to 40 per cent of this role, thanks to the company's Asia-wide focus and future business potential in Europe and the United States.

Liquavista specialises in new technology, so the successful candidate would be sent to its headquarters in Holland for training in this field. Promotion is a strong possibility in the longer term.

'This is a young company and you never know how big it might get, so there could be a lot of opportunity for this,' Mr Ho said.
