At A Glance: Subaru Impreza WRX Sti

What drives it? A 2,457cc, horizontally opposed, four-cylinder, turbocharged engine with multipoint sequential injection and a six-speed manual transmission. It's fitted with Brembo brakes, inverted MacPherson strut-type suspension at the front and double wishbones at the rear, and has power steering with a 5.5 metre turn radius on 18-inch wheels.

How fast is it? Subaru says it belts out 300 horsepower at 6,000rpm, 407Nm at 4,000rpm, hits 100km/h in 5.2 seconds and tops out at 250km/h.

How safe is it? It has dual front, side and curtain airbags front and rear, anti-lock braking with electronic brake-force distribution, Isifix child-seat anchors and hill-start assist.

How thirsty is it? It drinks 10.3litres per 100km on a combined cycle.

How clean is it? It spews 243 grams of CO2 per km in combined town and country runs, and 327gpk in town, the marque says. The latest 3.6-litre Porsche 911 belches 226gpk.
