The total rainfall recorded by the Hong Kong Observatory last month reached 1,346.1mm by noon yesterday, breaking the previous monthly rainfall record of 1,241.1mm set in May 1889. It has become the wettest month since records began in 1884. Pearl River Delta areas were also affected. By Sunday, Guangzhou and Macau had reached 872.7mm and 1,200.8mm respectively, also the highest monthly rainfall records for the two centres.
