Pan-democrats unlikely to get meeting with Vice-President Xi
Pan-democratic lawmakers do not expect to be able to exchange views with Vice-President Xi Jinping during his visit to Hong Kong next week.
The pan-democratic camp has called for a meeting with the vice-president, but so far only lawmakers have been invited to a welcoming dinner for Mr Xi next Monday. Some of the camp's lawmakers believe the dinner will be their only occasion to meet the vice-president.
Mr Xi is scheduled to be in town from Sunday until Tuesday, marking his first visit to Hong Kong since he became vice-president in March.
Ronny Tong Ka-wah of the Civic Party said he would not expect any breakthroughs on having a real talk with Mr Xi if Monday's dinner were the only chance for lawmakers to meet him.
Albert Chan Wai-yip, lawmaker from the League of Social Democrats, said: 'If we cannot even shake hands with the official at the dinner, what is the point in going?'
However, he still had expectations of the new leader.
