Caped crusader in credit mission

Credit cards used to cater to professionals, or at least adults. But the market, it seems, has been expanding to teenage territory.

Dah Sing Bank has been pioneering this trend with cards featuring Snoopy, Hello Kitty and My Melody. But these may have been too girly, so the bank has joined forces with Warner Brothers to come up with the Batman Visa card. A bank spokeswoman said it had nothing to do with The Dark Knight, the latest instalment in the Batman movie franchise. (Yeah, sure!)

'We think it's pretty age-neutral,' she said. 'Older people grew up reading Batman comics. Younger ones are familiar with the more updated versions.'

But the truth is, she confessed, the new card aims to attract guys. 'Men represent a significant market segment but they probably wouldn't want to carry a Hello Kitty card.'
