Jessica Fung Wai-yee's attempt to break the Hong Kong high jump record for the second time in two weeks was thwarted yesterday by torrential downpours. The promising 14-year-old won the event with a leap of 1.75 metres on the second and final day of the Inter-City Meet at Wan Chai Sports Ground, but failed to clear 1.79m, which would have bettered the mark of 1.78m she set in Jakarta last month at the Asian junior championships. 'The track was very slippery,' said a spokesman for the Hong Kong Amateur Athletics Association. 'It affected her performance.'
