Who's behind it? Plastic and reconstructive surgeon Marko Lens is also a noted specialist in skin ageing and skin cancer. Lens still operates his private clinic in Harley Street, London.

It was while he was a research scientist - looking into how anti-oxidants can prevent ageing - that he decided to create the Zelens brand. 'Not everyone needs plastic surgery - if wrinkles don't bother you and you look after your skin you can have healthy skin without pigmentation and be happy,' says Lens. 'I don't believe in miracles in a jar but I do believe you need protection against the environment and free radicals.

'If you can repair your skin to avoid cancer and dark spots and you get some wrinkle improvement, then that's a bonus. If you are 65 and you look 55 then I believe you've achieved something.'

What's the spin? It's based on the principles of Japanese herbal medicine, traditional western medicine, pharmacology and biology. The overall aim is to protect and reconstruct skin cells to fight against ageing.

Anything else? The cosmeceuticals use a patented liposome delivery system to trap key ingredients, enhancing absorption by the skin at a cellular level.

What about the design? The design concept, jars and outer packaging were created by Anouska Hempel, the designer behind Blakes hotels in London and Amsterdam and The Hempel hotel in London.

Where can I buy it? Lane Crawford Pacific Place and IFC stores.
