Wu Minxia is considered the second-best Chinese springboard diver. Her name used to appear behind her synchronised diving partner Guo Jingjing's, but she has captured a lot of attention this year with her impressive performance.

The 22-year-old first paired up with Guo in 2001. In the following seven years, the duo mastered the 3-metre women's synchronised springboard. They won numerous international championships, including the Athens Olympics gold medal.

However, Guo was always the centre of attention. Wu kept a low profile and was plagued with illness and injuries after the Athens Olympics. To secure hopes for the Olympic gold medal this year, the national team's head coach split up Wu and Guo.

Although Wu went through difficult times, she never gave up. She focused on the individual event and her fate began to change when she beat Guo and won the 3m springboard gold medal in the 2006 World Cup.

In February this year, Wu again beat Guo at the World Cup in Beijing. In May, Guo failed to make it to the final of the 2008 Fina Diving World Series. Wu gave a stunning performance and won the gold medal for China. She has been teamed up with Guo for next month's 3m synchronised springboard event.
