Deal ends strike

A two-day strike by 200 Vitasoy transport workers seeking a 6 per cent increase in salaries and commissions ended after the company agreed that it would announce salary adjustments on Tuesday. It will also set up a mechanism for the workers to express their grievances.

Truck hits toll booth

An accident held up traffic near the Lion Rock Tunnel. At about 3pm a light truck heading towards Sha Tin overturned after hitting a toll booth. The driver of the vehicle was slightly injured.

Fire at councillor's office

Police were investigating a possible arson attack outside a Kwun Tong district councillor's office yesterday afternoon. A notice board outside Ng Siu-cheung's office caught fire at 1pm in Sau Mau Ping. No one was injured.

Fuel duty lifted

The Legislative Council passed a resolution scrapping the HK 56 cents per litre duty on Euro V diesel. The measure will be effective from tomorrow. The government expects 130,000 vehicles to be affected, with drivers saving HK$600 to HK$700 a month.

Mother-in-law attacked

A 36-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly attacking her mother-in-law in Tsuen Wan. Police said the two argued at their home in Serene Garden at about 4pm. Both were slightly injured.
