Cuisine: Chinese. Price: About HK$200 per person without drinks and before adding service charge. Ambience: It's impossible to forget you're dining in a mall; some of the tables have one chair facing the shops while another looks into the restaurant.
Pros: Portion sizes are generous and most of the food is satisfying. The servers are young, friendly and eager.
Cons: Crispy tangerine peel spare ribs (HK$78) were far too sweet, although the meat was juicy.
Recommended dishes: Sichuan spicy chicken (HK$108), flavoured with soy sauce and chillies, came with toasted peanuts and sesame seeds that gave crunchy contrast to the slippery fun pei (mung bean sheets) and creamy chunks of century eggs. Mum's turnip pancake (HK$68, above) had thick pieces of the turnip, rather than being shredded, as we expected. The pancake was pan-fried so it had some nicely charred pieces, and was served with a small bowl of XO sauce (it needed more). Cold tofu with sea urchin (HK$128) was delicious in its subtlety. The two ingredients had the same, creamy texture but the tofu was cool and bland while the sea urchin pieces, while rather small, were sweet and buttery. Vegetables in prime stock (HK$60) had crisp sprouts on top of soft, steamed winter melon. We loved the desserts, especially the ice creams. The banana ice cream served with caramel glutinous rice (HK$44) has a stronger banana flavour than the grilled banana that accompanied it. Lychee ice cream with osmanthus wine (HK$42) was a refreshing, summery combination.
What else? Many of the dishes are deliberately served cool or at room temperature. Most of the dishes are also served at the sister restaurants,  Xi Yan Sweets in Wan Chai and Xi Yan Tastes in Causeway Bay.
