Daylight shines in through a crack in Tsang Yi-ping's flat in the Lee Hing Building, Sheung Wan. A multi-storey crack up to 15cm wide opened up between the building and an adjoining taller structure on July 9. The six-storey building, home to 10 households, tilted and chunks of masonry crashed down. Ms Tsang said a contractor from a neighbouring construction site built a temporary wall for her flat using bricks, concrete and cement to fill the gap. Like most residents, she has been staying at the Hua Tai Hotel since July 8. She planned to seek advice from the district council on applying for compensation. A Buildings Department spokesman said the block was still structurally safe.
