British designer joins makeup brand to paint faces for 'chic, wonderful life'

More cosmetics labels are seeking out fashion designers for collaborations, but they're not just matching clothes with makeup. They want the designers to put their name on the face paint.

The latest such showcase was on Friday night at the Four Seasons ballroom, with Japanese brand Shiseido's Maquillage recruiting up-and-coming London stylist Christopher Kane (pictured, with models) to talk up the makeup. 'Fashion is not just about the clothing. The co-ordination of makeup and [a] model's character also plays an important role,' the best new designer at last year's British Fashion Awards said. 'The collaboration is all about mixing chic, beauty, fashion, and showing how wonderful life is. It's just as incredible as our latest collection. [The makeup] is fun, easy to use, matches everyone, yet [it is] sophisticated and vibrant.'

The young designer must like cosmetics because a few months ago he was working with Lancome. Now, he's developing products and colours for the popular Japanese line. The packed house of ladies surely had a tough time deciding whether to focus on the makeup or the clothes. Although this was Kane's first visit to the city, he admitted he was quite impressed by Hongkongers' good fashion sense. 'I am passionate about life and fashion, and this is what inspires me, merging the beauty of life into fashion, and bringing in the colours of life.'

By the way, for autumn, the British trendsetter suggests cashmere knit will be a must-have, accompanied by - what else? - his shimmer makeup.
