HONG Kong ended their ICC Trophy campaign on a sad note, losing by 57 runs to Bangladesh in their last quarter-final group match at the Aga Khan Club here in Nairobi yesterday.
Chasing a target of 239 in 50 overs, the territory failed to find an answer to the Bangladeshi spinners, and were bowled out for 181 in the 48th over.
It was a much-needed consolation win for Bangladesh, who, like Hong Kong had lost both their previous quarter-final group games to Holland and Kenya.
Having restricted Bangladesh to 238, Hong Kong began well, reaching 139 for two before the collapse which saw eight wickets tumble for 42 runs.
Openers Stewart Brew and Mark Eames started cautiously and put on 32 before Minazul Abedin had Brew clean bowled.
Abedin, who top-scored for Bangladesh with 66, went on to grab four wickets, including the vital one of Pat Fordham (39) precipitating an eight-wicket collapse.
