Born: July 31, 1988 in Shanghai

Entry: 10m platform

Credentials: Silver at 2007 world championships

Why he'll win: Because he's capable of incredible scores. Men's 10-metre platform is the chink in the Chinese diving juggernaut. The team missed out on gold in Athens and again at the 2007 worlds. Now they pin their hopes on Zhou, who came second to Gleb Galperin in the worlds in Melbourne, to fill the void left by retired superstar Tian Liang. Zhou unquestionably has the ability: at the Nanjing World Series in 2007 he scored more than 100 points on three dives. A similar score would make him virtually unbeatable in Beijing - his challenge is to produce his best when it counts.

Who can stop him: Gleb Galperin (Russia), Jose Guerra Oliva (Cuba)

Final: Saturday 23th
