'Move on from referee'
Shamed NBA referee Tim Donaghy has been sentenced to 15 months in jail for his involvement in a betting scandal, and league superstars hope this brings to an end one of the ugliest scandals to hit the league.
The LA Lakers' Kobe Bryant - who took part in the 2002 play-off series against the Sacramento Kings which many had linked to the case - was of the opinion that gambling was not a major problem among referees.
'If it was, I am sure a lot of stuff would have come out already,' he said. 'The commissioner has already stated that it was a rogue incident and that's what we're going to go by.'
As for that series against the Kings - won by the Lakers in seven games - Bryant said none of the players involved has suspected that any of the referees involved might have tried to influence the outcome.
'It was a hard-fought series and we had games we shot many free throws, we had games where we didn't shoot too many free throws. In game seven they missed more than we made,' was his explanation.
Toronto Raptors forward Chris Bosh, meanwhile, said he hoped the case served as a warning. 'I'm sure that other guys have seen it and they're taking note of it,' he said.
