Funds drive helps school stay afloat

Po Yan Catholic Primary School, which had been told to cease Primary One classes because of an insufficient new intake, has staved off the threat of closure after its plan to run classes on private funds was approved. Retiring principal Wong Chun-chung said the school had secured HK$200 million for opening a class next month following a fund-raising drive. The 43-year-old school in Wong Tai Sin had failed to enrol the minimum of 21 pupils for the new school year.
