An experienced financial controller with a strong background in the shipping industry is wanted.

The shipping firm, which was experiencing healthy growth, was looking for someone to manage the firm and 'take the company to a whole new level', said Reina Cheng, a consultant for recruitment specialist Ambition's commerce and industry division.

'This is a good leadership role, where someone has the opportunity to come into a business that is going in the right growth direction and take it up a notch.'

The ideal candidate must offer a solid background and at least 10 years of work experience. The role will involve financial reporting and communication with external parties, including banks' tax advisers and external auditors, and management.

'You should have good leadership ability, be capable of forward thinking and think out of the box,' Ms Cheng said.

The ideal candidate could be a finance manager who is ready to step up into the role of controller.

While the position is largely Hong Kong-based, applicants should be prepared to spend some time on the mainland.

'The line manager for the role has a lot of industry experience, so do your homework,' Ms Cheng said.

Once on board, career opportunities were healthy because the business was expanding, she said.
