John Sin, 36, says it is doubtful there will be terror attacks in Hong Kong during the Olympics and thinks the media should focus on the athletes

I don't think Hong Kong will be attacked by terrorists. If terrorists really want to cause disruption to the Olympic Games, I think they would prefer launching attacks in Beijing rather than in Hong Kong, as the impact would be more impressive.

The media has run big stories about the bomb-like object found at an MTR station in Causeway Bay. But I am not too worried. Hong Kong is a very densely populated city and if someone really wants to make trouble in Hong Kong, it is very easy. He or she can throw a bomb anywhere and for sure someone will be injured, if not killed. What's the point of hiding a little bomb-like object here and there?

I don't see why someone who really wanted to cause a lot of trouble in Hong Kong would hide that tiny object at the MTR station. What impact can be achieved? But then this case distracted a lot of police and caused panic among the officers. After all, they are the ones working on the front line.

I think someone has played a dirty trick at a very sensitive time. If we were not hosting the equestrian events now, it might be just another small story. But newspaper reporters have packaged it as if it was a very serious case.

I tend not to believe every story that is reported in newspapers. I think readers should be critical and screen out the real news stories that report the facts from those that aim to make something boring sound exciting to boost circulation.

I think the mass media should stick to reporting the truth, as that is what quality news stories are all about. I believe the function of newspapers is to inform the public about what is going on around them and the main aim is not to entertain readers.

Though there has been no major damage at any of the host cities of Games events, I think the terrorists have already won by causing fear and making everyone around the world feel paranoid. They have won the war mentally. It is a psychological war against the authorities they hate.

The fear of being targets of terrorist attacks is also very strong in Hong Kong, though the police keep saying the city's risk of being attacked is very low. Still, officers of the disciplinary forces have to be very alert and ensure the safety of all important guests who have come to watch the equestrian events.

I feel very proud and happy that China is hosting the Olympic Games this year. It seems that Hong Kong people feel more for the country when it is in sorrow, but not when it is overwhelmed with joy.

When the earthquake happened, killing many people in Sichuan , Hong Kong people tried to do what they could to help. But when it comes to the opening night of the Olympic Games, Hong Kong people prefer staying at home to watch television in an air-conditioned sitting room rather than going out to watch the events on big screen televisions in crowds to cheer for their motherland.

Hong Kong people are very pragmatic and cool in a way. They show little emotion unless something very serious and terrible has happened.

Hong Kong, though, has been reunited with China for a decade. Our patriotism doesn't seem to have grown very much. We still have our own flag and we can also send out our own team of athletes to take part in the Olympic Games. I think Hong Kong is really a very unique place.

I hope the Olympic Games will not be disturbed by terrorist attacks or protests. I think news coverage should focus more on the performance of athletes from around the world and give some credit to these people who have worked and trained hard to prepare for the Games.

As for us, taxi drivers really don't have high hopes that the equestrian events will boost our business. We prefer not to drive around there as we do not want to get stuck in traffic jams, since so many roads have been blocked for security reasons.

The equestrian events organiser has arranged everything, including transport for their guests with coaches, and the buses are also arranged for visitors. Why should we go there for business when there is nothing left for us?
