A man failed to win compensation for upsets to his life caused by renovation noise in a neighbouring flat after a tribunal ruled noise is an inevitable part of Hong Kong life. Retired archaeologist William Meacham had sought HK$26,500 from Fortune Founder, owner of the flat, to cover rent for another flat and travel costs. The Small Claims Tribunal ruled against him and ordered him to pay Fortune Founder HK$2,557 in costs.
