Ocean Park seeks go-getter to get show on the road

Job satisfaction is guaranteed in this role creating some of the largest seasonal events in Hong Kong

If you love making a summer splash, a fantastic Halloween bash or an extraordinary Christmas sensation, read on. A world famous theme park is looking for a project manager with the right attitude to take on the role of show producer.

Ocean Park not only offers guests various experiences through marine and conservation themed attractions but, in terms of annual attendance, ranks No16 in the world, No5 in Asia and No1 across China.

'Ocean Park organises five major seasonal events every year and the show producer leads their team to produce these,' said Eva Au Yeung, Ocean Park's events and entertainment manager.

The new recruit would be a team leader, supervising duties ranging from brainstorming and concept development to event execution, Ms Au Yeung said. Other duties include working closely with different contractors and service providers and co-ordinating with various internal departments within the park to ensure that events run smoothly.

'The show producer will have the opportunity to produce some of the largest seasonal events in Hong Kong - or even in Asia - and gets lots of job satisfaction,' she said.

As is the norm in the entertainment industry, the new recruit will work on weekends and public holidays on a rotational basis as and when necessary, and should be passionate enough about this pivotal role to put in extra hours during critical periods.

'The right person will be energetic and dedicated,' Ms Au Yeung said.

Ocean Park strives to be an employer of choice and cares about the well-being and holistic development of its staff. In addition, it offers highly competitive packages. In return, employees are expected to bring a good attitude to a workplace that has a happy family atmosphere.

'We want people with a bright outlook - optimistic go-getters who work with and inspire the whole team,' she said. The ideal candidate is a graduate in event management or theatrical study. Experience in producing mega events or of working in the entertainment business is welcome, as well as good leadership and supervision skills and the ability to work independently. Applicants should also be creative and be blessed with good communication and project management skills.

'You must be proactive, passionate about the work and able to work under pressure - this is a highly demanding job but with lots of job satisfaction,' Ms Au Yeung said.

Overseas travel might be required but is not frequent and depends on the requirement of each event. Applicants are advised that it is important to do their homework before the interview process and to be fully acquainted with the details of Ocean Park's seasonal events.

'Be confident and show us your passion for the role,' Ms Au Yeung said.

The successful candidate will join training programmes, overseas education tours and do visits to international trade shows.
