Bid to identify body found in sea

A DNA test will be carried out in an attempt to learn whether the nude body found off the Kwun Tong ferry pier on Saturday was that of a 36-year-old businesswoman dumped into the sea after being bludgeoned to death early this month. The body was partly decomposed, according to police. An autopsy will be carried out today.

Patient critical after manhole fall

A 68-year-old man was fighting for his life in hospital after he fell into a manhole in Ho Man Tin yesterday. Police said the man accidentally fell into the manhole and had to be rescued by firemen in Sheung Lok Street, Ho Man Tin, at about 7.30am. He was in critical condition in Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Hunt for hit-and-run taxi driver

Police are looking for a hit-and-run taxi driver and his cab after it knocked down a woman and sped away in Lockhart Road near the junction with Luard Road, in Wan Chai, at about 12.30am. The woman was treated for minor injuries at Ruttonjee Hospital.

Policeman's wife mugged in alley

A policeman's wife had a necklace worth HK$7,500 snatched in a hold-up in an alley in Essex Crescent, Kowloon Tong, after picking up her son from school around midday. The woman suffered minor scratches to her neck and was treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Officers mounted a search, but no one was arrested. Police said the mugger wore a black shirt and blue jeans.

Pedestrian falls into path of bus

An 18-year-old woman was hit by a double-decker in Lung Cheung Road, Wong Tai Sin, when she felt unwell and fell off the pavement at 12.19am. She was injured in the abdomen. She was in stable condition in Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Arrest after neighbours' dispute

Police arrested a 39-year-old woman on suspicion of assaulting her 72-year-old neighbour in Lung Wing House, Lower Wong Tai Sin Estate, in Wong Tai Sin at about 3.30am, after she allegedly kicked him during a dispute over noise. The man was treated for minor hand injuries at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Appeal over missing 61-year-old

Police have appealed for help in finding 61-year-old Mong Siu-yam, who went missing from a home for the elderly in Kowloon City Road, Kowloon City, last Tuesday. Anyone with information can contact police on 2760 5562 or 2760 5567.
