Britain will begin its London 2012 Olympic journey with an A-list of stars - and eight minutes of all- dancing chic in the 'Bird's Nest' National Stadium tomorrow night.
Footballer David Beckham will take centre stage when the Olympic flag is handed to London at the closing ceremony.
'David has been passionate about the bid from the early stages. He played a key role in Singapore and he was brought up within a stone's throw of the Olympic Park in London,' said Bill Morris, the London Organising Committee (Locog) director of ceremonies. Beckham will be joined by Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page and London-born singer Leona Lewis.
Britain will also be represented by the Royal Opera House and numerous sportsmen and women from previous Olympic Games.
Moreover, some of this year's sports stars who have helped put Britain third in the tally of gold medals will also attend and witness the Five Rings pass to the hands of London's mayor, Boris Johnson.
'He's been told not to drop the flag,' said London 2012 chief Sebastian Coe, a former middle-distance track gold medallist.
Details about the handover were to be revealed to the media at a rehearsal on Thursday but it was cancelled by rain.
