Hoax bomb forces evacuation
About 100 people were evacuated from an Aberdeen public housing estate after a bomb scare yesterday afternoon. Residents of Tin Kin House on the Tin Wan Estate came across a small wooden box on a concourse with a sheet of paper on it that read, 'Bomb inside'. Bomb disposal officers were called but found nothing dangerous. An 11-year-old boy was arrested.
Activists call for Olympic recycling
A green group has called on the government to recycle promotional material for the Olympic equestrian events. Greeners Action said most of the 18,000 banners, posters and stickers used throughout the city for the events could be recycled despite the low grade of plastic used in many of them. The group also said the government should ensure it bought environmentally friendly materials, as low-quality plastics had limited potential for recycling and often ended up in landfills.
Man to face murder charge
A 27-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Fanling Court today to face a murder charge. The man was arrested in connection with a case in which a 19-year-old woman was found lying unconscious in a flat on the Wah Ming Estate, Sheung Shui, on Thursday. She was later certified dead.
Man chopped in Shenzhen
A 40-year-old was admitted to North District Hospital after he reported being chopped in Shenzhen. The man returned to Hong Kong at about 9pm via the Lo Wu control point. He told police he had been attacked. Police are investigating the cause of his injuries.
