Nanda Clocky

If you struggle to get up in the morning and have tried all types of alarm clocks to no avail, here's a little gadget that just might do the job.

Designed by an ex-MIT Media Lab researcher, Gauri Nanda, the Clocky is a digital alarm clock that offers all the traditional clock functions such as alarm (obviously) and the all-important snooze button (that's probably the reason for many late arrivals at early classes and delayed morning meetings).

What's different about the Clocky, besides its range of funky colours and the cute little buttons and display that make it look like a a character from Wall-E, are the wheels on either side of the main unit.

Normally, these wheels serve no purpose other than decoration. But when you find yourself pressing the snooze button one too many times (more than two, to be exact), that's when the wheels come alive.

When the alarm goes off for the third time in the morning, the wheels take on a life of their own and start to turn, propelling the unit off your beside table and across your bedroom floor.

Also know as the Hide and Seek Alarm Clock, the Clocky effectively forces you to get out of bed and find it so you can turn it off, by which time you should be wide awake.

A microprocessor ensures that the clock follows a truly random route each time, so you can't cheat and find it in the same place every morning.

What's more, chasing around after your alarm clock gives you a early morning mini-workout.

The Clocky is listed at US$50 on the official Nanda site (www.nandahome.com), but is available on Yahoo! auctions with bidding starting as low as HK$125.

Pros: gets you to morning classes or meetings on time

Cons: no more excuses for being late
