My family and I always made a point of spending summer together, travelling overseas, discovering new places and just having fun. But as I grew older, I've divided my time between family and summer jobs. Working has taught me how to be responsible for earning money and handling my finances. There are few better feelings than buying stuff for yourself, your friends and your family with your own money.

I adopted a kitten from the SPCA in 2006 and it was the cutest thing I had ever seen! I named it Ginger - yes, it's a ginger cat. It's made a huge impact on my life - I've learned responsibility for another life. Once I became so distracted by playing with Ginger, I forgot to do my homework. Luckily my teacher was away, but it made me realise just how much effort it takes to look after someone.

I've done all sorts of things during my summer holidays, like travelled the world. But the thing that made the biggest impact on me was my summer job at OUP. I was asked to produce some educational videos for students learning English as a second language. On day one, I was thrown a script, forced to memorise it then perform with a stranger. It's so hard to stare into your partner's eyes, hear them say bizarre things and contain your laughter. But thanks to some extremely supportive and patient staff, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
