Hundreds still waiting for flights
Hundreds of Cathay Pacific long-haul passengers were still stranded in Hong Kong yesterday in the wake of Severe Tropical Storm Nuri, with the airline trying to find seats on flights leaving for Europe and North America - most of which were 80 per cent full. The airline expected to clear the backlog today, a spokeswoman said, adding that services had returned to normal.
Missing hiker's body found
The body of a Japanese hiker, missing since August 16, was found by searchers from the Civil Aid Service. Hana Imin, 49, who had been hiking with colleagues in Sai Kung country park, walked off alone at Nam She Au. Police were alerted when he failed to show up at their destination. His body was found on the coast near Nam She Wan.
Boat worker seriously injured
A 57-year-old man was hit by an iron cable while working on a boat moored at a shelter in Kwun Tong at about 9am. He fell and injured his head and legs. Firemen transported the injured man ashore. He was in serious condition in hospital.
Pair held for illegal car racing
Two men, aged 21 and 22, were arrested for illegal car racing at Bride's Pool Road and Ting Kok Road in Tai Po. The police operation began at 10pm on Saturday and ended at about 4.30am. Officers intercepted the two cars and arrested the men for dangerous driving. They were released on bail of HK$10,000 each and must report back in October.
Six arrested over attack in bar
Six men, aged between 20 and 34, were arrested for allegedly attacking a 32-year-old man at a bar in Carnarvon Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, at about 5.30am. The injured man was admitted to hospital. An hour later, a 31-year-old man was attacked by a gang armed with bottles at a bar in Prat Avenue, Tsim Sha Tsui. He was also in hospital.
Suspect in drug trafficking
A 38-year-old man was arrested for drug trafficking at about 11pm on Saturday. Police seized 270 grams of what was thought to be cocaine, with an estimated street value of HK$220,000, from his car at a car park in Hung Hom.
