Overprotective parents should relax

I think some parents are overprotective of their children.

One reason may be the increasing number of couples who have only one child. They focus all their attention on them.

Some parents never let their children go out in the evening as they are worried they will get into trouble.

I think children should ask their parents to give them more freedom. If they do not talk about their feelings, their parents will continue to treat them like a baby.

Overprotecting children is not a good thing. It has lots of disadvantages, such as making young people introverted, timid and too dependent.

Luckily, my parents give me a lot of freedom and let me try different types of activities. Consequently, I am an independent girl and I'm not afraid to talk to people.

Thank you, Miu-ting, for your very interesting letter. Being able to take part in activities is always an important part of growing up. You're right - it does give us more confidence and makes us more independent.

We are extremely fortunate to live in one of the safest cities in the world. Three cheers for our amazing police force!

But that doesn't mean there are no other dangers out there. Teenagers can be faced with alcohol, drug abuse, physical abuse, gangs or lured into dangerous activities like street racing. It is very easy to make bad judgments when you are young and you might have to live with the consequences for the rest of your life.

As we grow older, it is a good idea to discuss limitations with our parents so we can get a clear idea of what is acceptable and what is not. This will also help our parents see how we are maturing and becoming more responsible.
