C'mon NBA, give us your all-stars again
with Andrew Sun. Additional reporting by Clara Mak and Vivian Chen.
In previous years, we had summer visits from all-stars like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. This year, maybe all the big basketball stars are burned out after the Olympics, so we're getting a slightly lower tier of NBA players touring and promoting their wares.
In town Tuesday to sell some shoes was Yao Ming's teammate Shane Battier (pictured) from the Houston Rockets. Although the power forward is no benchwarmer, Battier is not exactly, err, Tracy McGrady. However, he was a member of the previous USA basketball team which, err, lost to powerhouses like Greece and Lithuania.
Then next week, the annual NBA Madness road show will be at the Olympian City mall from September 12 to 14. The big draw at the fan extravaganza this year? The Chicago Bulls' cheerleading team, the Luvabulls, and Toronto Raptors' Jason Kapono. Sure, he's won the league's three-point shooting contest two years in a row now, but let's face it, Kapono is no Kobe.
