Over 100 apply for head coach's job

The Hong Kong Rugby Football Union (HKRFU) is sifting through 104 applications for the job of head coach of the national 15s team. The position was suddenly left vacant by John Walters at the end of last season.

'We have applications from Australia, England, New Zealand and South Africa,' said Allan Payne, HKRFU executive director.

The union will narrow down the field to about five candidates who will be asked to fly in for interviews. 'It is important to get the process right. Hopefully, we will have the right person in place by the end of this month,' said Ivan Torpey, HKRFU's head of performance.

Senior players were left shell-shocked in June when Walters quit. He had just led Hong Kong to a third-place finish at the inaugural HSBC Asian Five Nations and had another 10 months to complete in his two-year contract.
