Ken Parker has had an interesting life. From working in logistics on the coast of New South Wales, he has been a bodyguard for businessmen in some of Sydney's roughest streets, helped set up concerts for rock band AC/DC and driven tour buses throughout Australia.

He has done many other odd jobs over the years - some he would prefer were not mentioned.

And, for the past 12 months or so, he has been driving a minibus between Sai Kung and Hang Hau - much to the bemusement, at first, of locals and weekend visitors alike.

'It's mainly on the weekends now that I get the looks. You see them go to get on and then sort of stop and look at me, then look around like they're not sure what's going on,' he said.

'There seems to be this idea that this sort of job is below gweilos - that we are only here because we get paid so much money. But you know, if there's an honest buck in it, I'll do it. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty.'

Mr Parker moved to the city just over five years ago with his Hong Kong-born wife, Wing-ho, and their children, son Ron, five - who has an ambition to drive the 101 to Hang Hau - and daughter Annie, eight.

The decision to move back was made so that Wing-ho - whom he met when they both got separated from a tour group in Singapore - and the children could be closer to family.
