Warm reception

The sleek, chic W Hong Kong, adjacent to the Elements mall in Tsim Sha Tsui, is still in its soft-opening phase but the hotel's two restaurants are welcoming guests. Fire (below), a 90-seat fine-dining restaurant, was designed by Japanese firm Glamorous to live up to its name, with a warm, cosy setting, bold decor and an open kitchen with a wood-fired oven. Fire has a bar called, perhaps inevitably, Liquid Fire and a private dining room that seats 16. Among the more exotic items on the menu, designed by the hotel's culinary director Michael Poutawa, are wasabi bavarois with sake and Asian-spiced ocean trout gravelax with micro shiso (HK$260) and spit-roasted suckling baby pig (HK$390). Fire is open from noon to 3pm and 6pm to 11pm (last orders).

Kitchen (bottom), W's more casual outlet, was designed by Australian firm g+a. The dining room seats 138 and features a communal table for solo diners. Poutawa has created interpretations of comfort food: dishes such as crispy lobster tacos with green papaya and mint (HK$175) and chicken burger with Chiang Mai spices, green chilli relish and coconut-lemongrass chutney (HK$245). Kitchen is open from 6.30am to 10.30am and 11am to 11pm.

Reservations are required for both restaurants if you're not staying in the hotel. W Hong Kong is at 1 Austin Road West, Tsim Sha Tsui. For Fire, phone 3717 2848, to book Kitchen, call 3717 2222.
