Sports body tables fitness legislation to tap Games fever

A National Fitness Bill has been tabled at the State Council's Legislative Affairs Office for examination amid Olympic fever, said a top sports official. Feng Jianzhong, deputy president of the General Administration of Sport, said he hoped the Olympics and Paralympics would spur the development of sport in China, Xinhua reported. Mr Feng, who is also the deputy head of the Chinese Paralympics delegation, said major challenges were a lack of resources for sports and the imbalance in the development of sports between the eastern and western parts of the country. The bill was drafted by the General Administration of Sport. Observers have complained that sports in China lag behind those in other countries despite its unprecedented gold medal haul at the Beijing Olympics. Klaudia Lee
