Improve our education system

Hong Kong is an international city. But the education system is not good enough.

There are ways to improve the system.

Firstly, we should use small-class teaching. This will give students a chance to ask their teachers more questions.

Also, teachers can pay more attention to their students.

The government should also promote English language teaching.

Looking forward to liberal studies

I had my first liberal studies lesson last week. This was to prepare me for next year when it will be a core subject.

My liberal studies teacher, Ms Lok, explained how this subject was different from others.

She asked us what we should do if we wanted to get high marks. We said we could read more newspapers and books.

She also told us to think of positives and negatives when we answer questions.

The lesson was short, but it helped me understand more about liberal studies.

I look forward to studying this subject next year.

Get involved in the voting process

Even if you are not old enough to vote in the Legco election, you can take part in other elections.

You can join the Student Union council election. Many schools have a class committee election.

An election is held so people can choose the candidate they like.

The candidate who gets most votes will get the job. Making your vote seems an easy thing, but it is not.

Slim does not always mean healthy

A lot of girls in Hong Kong want a perfect body. Many join slimming centres. This is not healthy.

In the past, people thought being healthy was very important.

Now, many girls go on a diet even if they are skinny.

Beauty companies use stars to promote weight loss. They sell products like slimming tablets.

Many girls think taking the tablets will help them become slim. However, skipping meals can cause serious illness.

We should not believe the adverts for slimming centres.

Being healthy is more important than being slim.

Brain power

Knowledge is very important. We need to use our brains to learn things at school.

Later, we need to get a job to make money.

We all need knowledge to help us live well. Clever scientists have invented things to improve our lives.

Nowadays, our lives are more comfortable.

We should make sure we use our brain power.

Try to offer a helping hand

A helping hand is always welcome. The person who gets helped will never forget the one who help them.

Those who help others can become better people.

Life is meant to be lived together by sharing the world we live in. Life cannot be lived alone.

We all live in one world and we should make it a better place to live in by offering a helping hand.

Summer fun at the museum

I joined a programme at Hong Kong Heritage Museum this summer.

I learned many things about the museum, such as how to set up an exhibition.

I also saw how the museum works and learned how to be a guide.

The part I enjoyed most was working in the museum. I worked as a librarian.

Although I was a volunteer, it was like working in a real office.

I am glad the museum organised the programme. It gave me a chance to think about my career.

Let's care for our planet right away

We must look after our planet.

It is important to find ways of undoing the damage we have caused.

When you are given something, you should use it properly. If you do not look after what you are given, it will have to be thrown away.

We cannot throw away our home. Our planet is being ruined.

We only have one world and by caring for it we can make sure it lasts.

Don't start smoking - smoking can kill

The number of deaths caused by smoking in Hong Kong is thought to be more than 5,500 per year.

This is equal to 15 deaths per day.

Smoking is bad for your health. It causes cancer and health problems.

Since January last year, smoking had been banned in almost all public places.

Many people gave up smoking then.

The most important thing is not to start smoking in the first place.
