With the cancellation of the team events, Hong Kong's fencers faced a great challenge this year. They ended up with three gold, one silver and two bronze medals in Beijing compared with 14 medals in Athens four years ago.

Hong Kong's veteran wheelchair fencer Chan Yui-chong defended her foil title by defeating her opponent in the final in less than a minute. She also won the epee gold in individual Category B.

Another reigning epee gold medallist, Yu Chui-yee, failed in her bid to repeat the feat. She won the silver medal after losing to debutant Zhang Chuncui of China. Hong Kong's Fan Pui-shan won the bronze medal in the same individual Category A.

Yu had one more chance to win gold when she crossed swords again with Zhang in the Category A individual foil final. This time, she edged out Zhang to win the title. Fan came third in this category as well.
