Brand story: Natura Bisse

Who's behind it? Ricardo Fisas established the Spanish brand in 1979 when he was 50. Fisas was a manager in a now- defunct research and development company which hydrolysed proteins and during his time there he noticed that the hands of the factory workers were like silk. The brand eventually spread through word of mouth, starting with five creams. Now his son, two daughters and sons-in-law all work for the company.

What's the spin? Senior vice-president Ricardo Fisas Jnr says the company pushes the technological advancement of its 150 or so anti-ageing facial and body products that are made to be used in spa treatment rooms. 'We differentiate our brand with hi-tech research - this applies especially to our delivery systems. For example, when you have a product with hydrogen peroxide you cannot just spray it on to the skin, otherwise the active ingredient will be lost. You need to encapsulate it so that it's delivered to the skin in a way that maximises its effectiveness.'

Anything else? Natura Bisse came out with a product called Diamond Magnetic Peel in March: it's a body exfoliator that is made with real diamond dust particles.

Future plans? The firm's products are sold mainly through spas and department stores, and it has one stand-alone store in Taiwan. The brand is also looking to open more stand-alone shops in Asia.

Where can I buy it? Lane Crawford, IFC, Pacific Place and Canton Road, and the Four Seasons Spa.
