Factory leak dumps waste water into Yangtze

A crack in a pipe at a Hubei chemical factory caused waste water to flow into the Yangtze River on Monday, causing widespread pollution, state media have reported. Water supplies for three villages in Yangxi county, Huangshi , were affected. Xinhua reported that local environmental protection authorities had ordered the Hubei Chishun chemical factory to stop production, and further punishment would be imposed. The report said that while the situation had improved, the pollutants had yet to be completely cleaned up. Hubei provincial environment experts went to the scene yesterday to monitor the situation.
