Fewer students pass language test

The exam results of about 450 primary and secondary students who sat the Gang Ao Putonghua Shuiping Kaoshi last month were released this week. Developed by Peking University's linguistics centre, it is open to primary and secondary school pupils in Hong Kong and Macau. The exam tests students' listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities. The percentage of secondary and primary students who passed the exam was 75 and 92 respectively. The pass rates for secondary and primary students have fallen by 8 per cent and 2.5 per cent respectively.
