This week's question: Do you like exams?

Jean Tang, 16

I don't believe exams truly reflect our abilities or what we have learnt during the year. I think there are definitely other ways of assessing our knowledge. Exams do not determine how smart you are in terms of your capacity to adapt to different life situations and deal with problems. They simply show you can memorise things.

Oliver Billing, 15

I'd like to hope I'm speaking for a large majority when I say I don't really like exams, although they do create a challenge for me to strive for perfection. Every year I always want to go the extra mile and exceed others expectations of me. It seems impossible, but I want to exceed my parents, teachers and, most importantly, my own expectations.

Larissa Yong, 14

I'm going to be really straightforward about this. No. I don't hate exams, but I don't like them either. They are good for you, as they challenge you. But you usually have to prepare yourself for exams, studying and all that. If it's a big exam, it puts a lot of stress on me, because I get worried about the results.

Yasmin Atherton, 16

Exams try to put people into categories. As John Lennon once said, 'You don't need anybody to tell you who you are or what you are. You are what you are!'.

Beatrix Chau, 16

I absolutely love exams. I feel I perform best under timed situations as I am given a deadline. Coursework doesn't give me the motivation to sit down and just give it my all. As a result, I usually procrastinate. Exams do not allow me this luxury and I have to buckle down and do it.

Danielle Chua, 17

Not entirely, exams are often stressful and nerve-wracking. There's a vast amount of pressure on you, especially if the exams are finals. Revising tends to get tedious after a while and knowing they determine my final grades often gets me worried. However, it's always good to see how well I remember everything I've learnt.

Divya Chhada, 14

I don't really like exams because you have to study really hard for them, and it's a lot of stress. But as soon as I finish an exam, I'm really happy with the fact that it's over and I tried my best.
