Sichuan benefit a success
Habitat for Humanity China (HFH) raised more than HK$5.3 million at its gala dinner organised recently to help families affected by the Sichuan earthquake.
Held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, the charity's chief executive Alfred Tsang Hin-man praised the generosity of Hong Kong people.
A video was shown featuring HFH volunteers along with former US president Jimmy Carter who highlighted the importance of non-profit organisations and their role in rebuilding Sichuan homes.
A jewellery and fashion presentation was then followed by live music with active HFH supporter Michael Wong Man-tak, who performed with his Big Band.
Among the diners were US consul general Joseph Donovan, consul general of Denmark Jorgen Mollegaard, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Chan Ka-keung, as well as Kam Kwok-leung and Eydie Tai Ni-ting.
